1 Peter 2:9
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
If anyone has watched the t.v. show, “The Walking Dead”, you’ll know what a zombie is. I won’t get into that, what I do want to get into is that before we came out of darkness into light, we were spiritually dead. Alive like zombies but there was no life in us, no true life that is.
Like moths attracted to a flame, however, we see light ahead and like an impulse it pushes us toward it. Then, like coming up out of a watery grave we become reborn into a new creation. The old rags are gone, and the sores, boils, and scars are healed and washed clean. Our eyes lose the dead hopelessness and they shine bright with joy!
I wondered what peculiar means, and how we understand it as means unexpected, strange, funny etc. When others who are still in the darkness look at us they are bewildered, and they think we are like zombies because we’re not like them.
To show forth the praises… often the Lord calls us to praise Him in any situation. Even when we’re downright miserable and not feeling like it. But something happens when we make the choice to praise. He inhabits us. The light shines forth when we praise Him through the darkest times.
I honestly believe, my dear friend, that praising brings out God’s glory and power the most.
“Why do you seek the living among the dead? He’s not here but has risen!” When the women at the tomb heard that, they immediately began to praise God and ran off to tell the disciples.
As people come out of the darkness into light we’re dead to our old life and sins so who are the living dead?
Till Jesus wills it,
